The Building Safety Fund reopened for applications on 28 July 2022. The BSF is for eligible buildings without a funding solution in place where a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls recommends that work is required to address life safety fire risks associated with cladding, or alternative mitigation work.
The BSF will meet the cost of addressing those risks associated with cladding on high rise residential buildings The Fund is part of the wider Building Safety Programme whose objectives are to ensure that residents of high-rise buildings are safe – and feel safe – in their homes now, and in the future.
The Fund was previously open for applications between June 2020 and July 2020 and those with buildings that are eligible but did not previously apply can now access funding. 1168 buildings have been deemed eligible for £4.5bn fund and with just £1.4bn total funding allocated so far, it seems that the skills gap faced by the industry may be affecting the uptake of such funding to use the allocated amount. Anecdotal evidence indicates that some installers are managing a potential pipeline of work that is double their current capacity.
Through our own K Systems EWI Academy for Learning, we work alongside installers across the UK and Ireland, tooling them up to meet the demands of the various funding streams. And our approved installer programme grows by the week as we take on new contractors, providing the necessary training and support through the build process to ensure the successful installation of our products.
As a trusted EWI supplier with experience of high rise EWI projects, K Systems is ideally placed to help with your Building Safety Fund projects. Having won Best Tall Building Retrofit Project award at the recent Tall Building Awards following success in the ‘Refurb: Insulation and Rendered Finish’ category at the INCA Awards in 2021, we have a range of solutions available for your project requirements.
Our Exicco system, for example, is suitable for buildings of all heights, including buildings more than 18m, and offers an external wall insulation system that is tailored for steel and timber framed construction. The drained cavity behind the insulation ensures that any interstitial moisture escapes without detriment to the performance of the system. It is available using Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) or A1 fire rated Mineral Wool insulation, a necessity for high rise builds. Exicco is designed to improve thermal performance of the building while protecting the building from exposure to the elements.
Our technical team offer support at every stage of your project including design collaboration, on-site technical and installation support, project specific warranties and supplementary maintenance schedules and programmes. Our systems incorporate an extensive range of finishes and colours ranging from dash effects, silicone textured renders and brick effect finishes, ensuring every aesthetic can be achieved for the style or environmental constraints required.
