Kilwaughter Minerals very own KTP Associate Mark Gilmore has been shortlisted in the Future Innovator Category at the Best of the Best Awards, 2020.
Mark, who currently works within the Research and Development team, was able to use his vast understanding of the chemistry of ionic liquids to look beyond commercially available ionic liquids to design and synthesise bespoke and novel materials. His hard work and creativity within this area of study has led to the discovery and development of a new class of ionic liquids, which as well as being used as a masonry coating, has the potential to be transferred for use in other industries, thus creating further commercial opportunities. These include healthcare, marine coatings and industrial pipework.
In Kilwaughter, Mark’s methodology that he created is now used as a benchmark for new product design, with his work leading to reduced costs, optimised performance and a highly effective, non-hazardous final result. His ability to establish new partnerships with external companies based on his product design as well as communicating with internal staff and customers has lead to a fantastic KTP project.
Winners of the Future Innovator Category will be announced in advance of the KTP Virtual Awards Ceremony from 4pm-5pm on Wednesday 9th of September. To celebrate all winners you can register HERE
