Providing the solution for non traditional system build house design types.
There are two non-traditional system build house type designs namely 5M & Caspon. Both types are a timber frame construction with brick walls at ground floor level and hanging tiles or cladding on the upper floors. Due to the different system design types on this project, our team had to provide various detailing at the roofline and openings.
The hanging tiles or cladding was removed from the upper floor/ floors and replaced with new timber sheathing boards. This provided a grounding for our external wall insulation system.
We ensured the correct fixings were specified.
Fixing pullout tests were required on the existing brick substrate and new timber sheathing boards. This included a masonry hammer fixing for the brickwork and a screw type fixing for the timber areas.

To meet the specification and aesthetic requirements of the project, K Systems Mineral Wool EWI with our Silicone TC15 render and acrylic brick slip finish was specified. 80mm was required for the Caspon’s and 100mm for the 5M’s. This was to achieve a 0.28 U-Value.
150mm mineral wool was also used in some areas where there was a transition in the substrate.
Our Mineral wool insulation was chosen because of the outstanding A1 non-combustible fire rating.
We provided details for bespoke trims such as the transition between brick areas and the timber substrate, window sills, verge trims, at the roofline and around gas boxes.
Below dpc, an extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation board was used.
The install was as per PAS 2030 standard (the accredited install protocol).
